Green Bay is a Great Birding Destination

Birding in Green BayGreen Bay sits on the shore of Lake Michigan, with the Fox River winding through the heart of the city. Here, you’ll find thousands of acres of parkland and trails, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Every year around April, signs of new life are budding everywhere, both on and off shore. It is as if nature has sent out an invitation. Migratory birds are returning, transforming Greater Green Bay into a veritable birding paradise. This is a wonderful time to come and explore the “wild” side of Green Bay. Astor House is only two blocks from the Fox River Trail, and a fifteen minute drive from Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, both of which are excellent birding destinations. Reserve a room at this historic bed and breakfast this spring, so you have a cozy and quiet place to relax in the evenings after a full day in the outdoors.

Birding in Green Bay

Birding in Green BayThere is so much excitement amongst the flora and fauna during spring. You don’t have to be good at birding to get hooked on this increasingly popular quiet sport, either. There are many varieties of warblers and flickers, usually flitting around the trees in parks. It’s hard to miss the sparrows and swallows singing along riverbanks.  Sometimes, you’ll find eagles, peregrine falcons, and ospreys diving down to catch fish in the river. If you are lucky, you may also catch a glimpse of the colorful purple finches, as well as ruby-crowned kinglets. Many of these beautifully decked out male birds are busy looking for a mate to start a family. Two things that can enhance your birding experience are a pair of binoculars and a bird book. For binoculars, you can check out Bird Watchers Digest or Scope City in Green Bay. If you need a birding guide, you can find one at the Reader’s Loft or the Attic Books and Coffee.

Come and enjoy nature’s tapestry and symphony. At the end of the day, pick up a bottle of local wine from Captain’s Walk Winery or Mona Rose, and head back to the Astor House. Enjoy a relaxing glass of wine by the fireplace in your room, and plan our your next great adventure in Green Bay.  Come see why so many people come back to stay with us at our Green Bay Bed and Breakfast.  Book your room today!
