The outdoor running season has finally arrived and the Green Bay Marathon is just around the corner. Few people are aware of the prolific running culture in this town. There are literally thousands of running trails and hundreds of running events each year in and around the city. It is no surprise that the Green Bay Marathon attracts over tens of thousands of runners. The event lasts for three days. It begins with a health and fitness expo where you can get the latest running gear, or receive tips on how to stay in shape. The expo is followed by 5K and 10K runs, and finishes with a half and full marathon on the last day. The popularity of the Green Bay Marathon owes to its easy terrain and scenic route. Six of the 26.2 miles follow the Fox River Recreational Trail. Another highlight is the chance to run around the gridiron in the Lambeau Field at the end. When all the races are finished, there will be a tailgate-themed party in the stadium parking area. You don’t need to be a Green Bay Packers fans to enjoy this party. Afterwards, come back and relax at the welcoming Astor House Bed and Breakfast; the perfect place to rest your muscles and unwind in Green Bay!
Green Bay Marathon Kicks Off the Running Season
While the Green Bay Marathon is not the first running event of the season, it definitely is the start of a busy running season in Green Bay. If you want to avoid the crowded Marathon, or maybe you just want to get more races under your belt, you’ll have plenty to choose from. Just in the month of June, there are the Aurora BayCare Triathlon, Bellin Run, and the Titletown Ultra Series. The Bellin Run–named after Dr. Bellin, the one-time owner of our very own Astor House Bed and Breakfast–is one of the more gentle races in Green Bay. The course begins at the Bellin Hospital, and features a run through tree-lined residential streets and a downhill stretch towards the end.
Astor House is the Perfect Basecamp for Running

Migratory birds are returning, transforming Greater Green Bay into a veritable birding paradise. This is a wonderful time to come and explore the “wild” side of Green Bay. It is no secret that Green Bay loves the Packers. The city is filled with fantastic fans, some who come from far and wide to watch their team play. The reason is not just because it has brought back the Lombardi trophy four times. It is also because of a special relationship between the team and the community. The Packers are the only professional sports team in the country to be owned by shareholders. There are 363,948 owners, many of them live in greater Green Bay. As a result, the Packers are rooted in here. If you find yourself wondering why there is a 955 year waitlist for season tickets, you need to visit Green Bay and pay homage to Lambeau Field. Take a tour of the stadium. It will excite anyone, not just football fans. So make your reservation at Astor House for your next visit to Green Bay. We are just ten minutes from the stadium! (more…)
You wouldn’t know that the temperature is below freezing in Green Bay when you are watching the Packers playing at Lambeau Field. It is because of the Cheeseheads; the infamous Packers fans. Green Bay Sports and History Tours
In Green Bay, we take all sports seriously, but none more so than football. There are several tours that are both entertaining and educational. Close to Lambeau Field, two self-guided walking tours can satisfy both Packers’ fans and history buffs. The Oneida Nation Walk of Legends is a public art walkway near Lambeau Field that features twenty-four large granite-engraved monuments honoring the history of Green Bay Football. The Packers Heritage Trail pays homage to the history of Green Bay Packers and the people of Green Bay. Exploring this Trail will help explain the devotion of the team’s fans. You can also take the City Trolley Tour to see the Trail in a climate controlled trolley. Another fun way to do the tours is with segway. Glide NEW has various tours, including Packers themed and historic themed tours.
Football is not the only sports game in town. Resch Center is the arena for hockey games in Green Bay. There will be a number of games in October, including college hockey games and the US Hockey League games. Our hometown team, the Green Bay Gamblers, will take on Bloomington and Lincoln in mid and late October, which makes for a spectacular night out in Green Bay.
